TUTORIAL: Pro/E Variable Section Sweep feature with TRAJPAR equation

Version: Pro/E Wildfire, Wildfire 2.0 and Wildfire 3.0

TRAJPAR is the trajectory parameter used in relation for variable section sweeps in Pro/ENGINEER. TRAJPAR value ranges from 0 to 1 as the section is swept along the trajectory. This tutorial gives you a quick guide on how trajpar works in the relation for variable section sweep.

1. Open the sweep_trajpar_start.prt

2. Click Insert > Variable Section Sweep from the menu or the variable section sweep icon ProE Variable Section Sweep icon to activate the Variable Section Sweep command. Next, select the circle as the trajectory. Notes: Trajectory selected will turn into red.

3. Click the sketch icon ProE dashboard sketch on dashboard to start sketching. Alternatively, you can also press and hold the RMB and choose the sketch option from the drop down menu.

4. Sketch a straight line as shown below.

5. Next, click Tools > Relations from the top menu. In the relations dialog box, type in an equation as below

sd# = 5*sin(trajpar*360*6)

sd# is the dimension which you wish to be varies. In this tutorial, we are going to control the line (section) distance from the trajectory.

sin(trajpar*360*6) values ranges from 0 to 1 for 6 fases. Here, you can decide the number of fases for the equation.

Value 5 is the amplitude for the equation. You can substitute it to any value as you like.

6. Click the OK button when you are done. After that, press the check icon ProE sketch confirm to confirm the sketch. You should get a surface as shown below by now. The section is changing according to the equation wrote.

7. OPTIONAL: You can also insert another equation in the relation to control the line length.

sd# = 60 -10*cos(trajpar*360*6)

This equation makes the line length varies from 50 to 70 for 6 fases.

The final surface should look like below. You can open the sweep_trajpar_done.prt as reference.
